Women's hockey suffers loss at CHA foe Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (4-22-3, 1-14-0 CHA) fell to College Hockey America rival Syracuse University (10-17-2, 9-5-1 CHA) Friday evening from Tennity Ice Arena by a score of 7-1.
 
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) scored RIT's lone goal, a power-play tally with 4:11 left in regulation off a feed from Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep).Cornine and Stella Haberman (Golden Valley, MN/Minnesota Whitecaps) led the team with four shots on goal apiece. Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Athol Murray) took the loss in net for RIT, stopping 18 shots.

Seven different Syracuse players scored. Alysha Burriss and Allie Monroe had a goal and two assists apiece, while Megan Quinn and Savannah Rennie each tallied a goal and an assist. Allie Olnowich, Victoria Klimek and Ronnie Callahan also scored for the Orange. Abby Miller made 22 saves in goal.

Syracuse out-shot RIT, 25-23. RIT was 1-for-11 on the power-play, while Syracuse was 0-for-3. The Tigers held a 20-10 edge in shots on goal after the opening period.
 
Rennie got Syracuse on the board first, 2:25 into the contest off an assist from Allie Munroe. Munroe added an unassisted goal two minutes later, making it 2-0 Syracuse. Quinn slapped one in from the blue line off an assist from Burriss to put the Orange up 3-0 later in the period.
 
Syracuse pushed their lead to 5-0 after two periods and scored two third goals before Cornine scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
 
Syracuse leads the all-time series between the two schools 18-7-2.
 
The two teams are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center. It marks the fourth and final regular season meeting between the two schools.
