Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (3-2, 1-2 Liberty League) kicked off its spring season with a 7-2 win over Liberty League foe Rensselaer (3-2, 1-2 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon from the Midtown Athletic Club. It is RIT's first-ever victory over the Engineers,
The second doubles team of
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) defeated Makenzi Herbst and Jenny Lee by a score of 8-2.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) put RIT up 2-1 in the match, winning their first doubles against Mailani Neal and Tess Lubin.
Ying then defeated Neal in singles with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Julia Smolowitz (Marlborough, MA/Hudson) defeated Sasha Towe in three sets with scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 6-2. Casalnova had the match-clinching win over Andrea Valencia winning in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) defeated Nisha Rajamohan in two sets (6-3, 6-1) and
Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin) made it a final 7-2 victory for RIT, winning in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-6).
Rensselaer leads the all-time series between the two teams 4-1.
The Tigers return to action March 5 at 3:30 p.m. in the Gordon Field House when they host Daemen College.
