GENEVA, NY -- The No. 3 seed RIT (14-13) men's basketball team was defeated 84-64 by No. 2 Union College (17-8) in the Liberty League Men's Basketball Tournament Semifinals Saturday afternoon on the campus of Hobart College. Union advances to the title game where they will face No. 5 seed Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon.
RIT shot 27.8 percent from the floor on 20-of-72 shooting. The Tigers made just 4-of-24 from beyond the arc, and made 20-of-30 from the foul line.
Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and
Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) led the Tigers with 10 points apiece.
Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) tallied nine points, while
Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) chipped in with eight points.
Kevin Weckworth led Union with 23 points, while Greg King tallied 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Brendan Laing tallied 12 points for the Dutchmen who shot 53.6 percent from the floor.
RIT trailed 42-28 at halftime, shooting 27.3 percent from the floor. Davis and Pierre-Louis led the Tigers with eight points apiece in the first half. Aguilera had six rebounds and two blocks for the Tigers.
Atkinson scored seven of his 10 points in the second half to lead the Tigers, who were 11-of-29 from the floor in the half.
Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Aguilera each tallied six points in the second half.
Union won two of the three meetings between the two schools this season.
