Women's hockey to close out regular season and honor Class of 2018 vs. Mercyhurst

Tigers to honor seniors Lauren Carroll and Darcy Henderson Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team returns home to play its final two games of the regular season, as College Hockey America rival Mercyhurst University comes to the Gene Polisseni Center for a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. Friday's contest begins at 2 p.m., while Saturday's contest starts at 1 p.m.
 
Friday is Fan Appreciation Night, while Saturday is Senior Day. The Tigers will honor seniors Lauren Carroll (Carlisle, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) and Darcy Henderson (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) before Saturday's contest.
 
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for RIT staff, faculty and alumni, $3 for youth, and as always, admission is free for all RIT students (one ticket per valid ID). Tickets for both games are available at the Gene Polisseni Center and Gordon Field House Box Offices, or by calling (585) 475-4121 or by visiting www.rittickets.com.
 
The CHA Postseason Tournament will take place next weekend, March 1-3 at HARBORCENTER in downtown Buffalo. Mercyhurst is the currently second in the league standings with 25 points and can clinch a first round bye with one win this weekend. RIT is the No. 6 seed and will play the No. 3 seed (either Syracuse or Mercyhurst) on Thursday, March 1 in the CHA First Round playoff game.
 
RIT dropped a pair of league games last weekend at Penn State, falling 4-1 and 2-0. Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) made 73 saves in the two contests. Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) leads RIT in scoring with 10 goals and 15 points, while Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep), who scored RIT's lone goal at Penn State, is second on the team in scoring with four goals and a team-best nine assists.
 
Mercyhurst enters the weekend with a 14-14-4 mark, including an 11-4-3 record in CHA play. The Lakers split a pair of home games against league rival Robert Morris last weekend, winning 2-0 on Friday, while falling 3-2 on Saturday. Maggie Knott leads the Lakers in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points, while Vilma Tanskanen and Brooke Hartwick have 13 and 12 goals, respectively. In net, Kennedy Blair and Sarah McDonnell have split time. Blair is 7-7-1 with a 1.68 goals against average and a .930 save percentage, while McDonnell is 7-7-3 with a 2.27 goals against average and a .906 save percentage
 
This weekend marks the third and fourth meetings between RIT and Mercyhurst this season. Mercyhurst won both previous meetings earlier in the season at home by scores of 7-2 and 4-0. The Lakers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 20-4-0.
