ROCHESTER, NY -- Senior
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) set the RIT single-game scoring record as the women's basketball team (20-5, 14-4 Liberty League) closed out the regular season with a 79-44 win over Bard College (1-24, 0-17 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon from Clark Gym on Senior Day. RIT also tied a single-season program record by winning its 20th game of the season.
The Tigers honored seniors Glaz,
Sydney Frank (Haverford, PA/Friends' Central),
Abby Judd (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland),
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy),
Whitney Kent (Hinsdale, NY/Cuba-Rushford) and
Jessica Shields (Lyons, NY/Newark) prior to the start of the game. The group has led RIT to 71 wins during their tenure, including a 59-21 mark over the last three seasons.
Glaz broke Kim Jamison's mark of 35 points set on Dec. 9, 1995 with a free throw late in the fourth quarter. She led all scorers with 37 points on 15-of-26 shooting. Glaz also broke Ashlynn Palmitesso's single-game home scoring record of 33 points, set on Nov. 22, 2014. Glaz was 12-of-14 on 2-point attempts, led all players with five steals and added three assists. She now has 1,428 career points, 38 shy of the school mark of 1,466, held by RIT Sports Hall of Famer Amie Banis, who played from 1997-2001.
Judd, Kent and Olsen each tallied eight points for the Tigers, who shot 43.5 percent from the floor. Olsen and Judd each grabbed seven rebounds, while Judd also added three assists. Shields chipped in with six points and four boards.
Caleigh DeCaprio led Bard with 15 points. Elena LeFevre tallied 14 points, while Sarah Morris and Katie Esposito each grabbed nine rebounds for the Raptors, who shot 26.5 percent from the floor.
RIT jumped out to a 24-8 lead after the opening quarter and led 50-22 at the half and 67-31 after three quarters.
The Tigers equaled their program-record win total, also set in 2015-16 (20-7). RIT is the defending Liberty League Champion and finished in a three-way tie with Skidmore and Ithaca for the regular season title. Skidmore will be the No. 1 seed by virtue of tiebreakers, while RIT is the second seed and Ithaca is the No. 3 seed.
RIT will compete in next week's Liberty League Tournament. The Tigers will play the winner between third-seed Ithaca and six-seeded William Smith in the second semifinals at Skidmore College on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m.
