ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) broke the single-season record for pins in a season, as the RIT wrestling team (9-8) wrapped up the 2017-18 dual portion of its schedule by going 1-1 at the Tiger Duals at Clark Gym on Saturday. RIT defeated Pennsylvania College of Technology (7-20), 48-6 before falling to the University of Southern Maine (15-9), 32-21.

Winters, who competed at both 157 and 165 lbs. this afternoon, earned a pin over Daniel Bergeron of Penn Tech in 1:30 at 157 lbs. to open the day and jumped up 165 lbs. and pinned Juan Vernaza in 2:21. Winters now has 20 pins on the season, which broke the previous single-season school record of 19, set by three-time NCAA National Champion Matt Hamill in 1997-98. Winters now has 16 dual wins, tied for third most in one season at the university and a 36-7 overall mark.

Colby Hall (Deposit, NY/Deposit), Adam Green (Dansville, NY/Dansville) and Joe Cutugno (Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) also won both of their matches on the day. Hall earned a pin at 165 lbs. over Nick Bruce of Penn Tech in 2:45 before defeating Jared Garcia of Southern Maine in 2:18 at 157 lbs. RIT rolled in the win over Penn Tech, winning eight matches, while scoring the first 48 points of the match. Against Southern Maine, RIT fell behind 23-0 before roaring back to win the next four matches, three by fall to cut the deficit to 23-21. Southern Maine would win the final two matches en route to the team victory.
