Women's hockey drops final game of 2018 calendar year to Boston University

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (5-10-4) dropped its final game of the 2018 calendar year and fall semester, 8-0 to Boston University (8-4-4) from the Gene Polisseni Center Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers tied a Division I single game record with six power-plays. Jesse Compher had a goal and four assists to lead the Terriers attack, while Abby Cook had a goal and two assists. Sammy Davis, Courtney Correia, Deziray De Sousa, Kaleigh Donnelly, Natasza Tarnowski, and Nara Elia also scored. Corinne Schroeder made 22 saves over the first 51 minutes, while Nicole McGuigan played the final minutes to combine on the shutout.

Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) got the start in net for the Tigers, stopping 23 of 27 shots over the first 32:33. Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) made 10 saves, while Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) stopped five shots.

Boston University out-shot RIT, 46-22. The Terriers scored six times in nine power-play attempts, while RIT was 0-for-3.

"I thought we played with a lot of energy, but didn't get some early bounces," said Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach Chad Davis. "We need to battle through this and be ready to go coming out of the holiday break."

The Terriers scored the lone goal in the first period, out-shooting RIT, 15-7. De Sousa gave Boston University a 1-0 lead with 7:05 left in the opening period, slamming in a rebound after the initial shot by Kristina Schuler hit the inside of the right post and came out. Alex Allan also assisted on the goal.

Lanteigne was called upon to make a handful of key saves after the goal to keep it a 1-0 game.

Boston University started the second period with 47 seconds of a 5-on-3 power-play and would convert nine seconds after RIT got one player back, as Compher ripped a hard snap shot from the slot over the glove of Lanteigne for her team-best 11th goal of the season to make it 2-0.

RIT would earn a two-player advantage of its own for 1:16 shortly thereafter, but failed to score.

The Huskies would add two more power-play goals just over four minutes apart midway through the second period to make it 4-0. Cook wired in a hard slap shot from the high slot for her sixth goal of the season to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead with 11:42 left. Davis one-timed a perfect cross-ice feed from Compher to make it 4-0 with 7:27 remaining in the period.

Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) had a glorious chance to get RIT on the board later in the period, as she got behind the Terriers defense, but flipped a shot just over Schroeder and the crossbar.

The Terriers poured it on with four third period goals from Correia, Donnelly, Elia and Tarnowski.

Boston University leads the all-time series between the two schools, 3-1-0. Yesterday, Compher tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Terriers to a 3-1 win over RIT. Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) scored RIT's lone goal.

RIT is off until Jan. 4-5, 2019, when they head to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University in a pair of non-conference contests.
