No. 13 RIT women's basketball set to compete in Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's basketball will play in the Third Annual Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout this weekend. The Tigers will face Nazareth College on Thursday, Dec. 6, and St. John Fisher College on Saturday, Dec. 8. Both games will be played on the campus of Nazareth College at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. In addition to the four contests, Nazareth will be hosting a toy drive to benefit children through Mary's Place.

RIT, ranked No. 13 in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Poll, enters Thursday 6-0 overall and is 2-0 in the Liberty League after a pair of wins last weekend versus Bard and Union. Friday, the Tigers beat Bard 71-48. Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) led RIT with 12 points and eight rebounds versus Bard, while Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied 10 points. Wolfe tallied 22 points in a 66-59 win versus Union on Saturday.
 
 The Tigers enter the weekend averaging 68.5 points per game, while allowing 57.3 points, outscoring their opponents by an average of 11.2 points per game. Wolfe leads the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.2 points and 8.3 caroms per game. Junior Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) is second in scoring, averaging 13.0 points, while Lynch is third averaging 12.5 points per contest. Senior Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) is fourth in scoring, averaging 12.2 points, and leads the team in assists, averaging 6.3 per game. Last weekend, Okada became RIT's all-time leader in assists with 354.
 
Nazareth comes into Thursday's game 3-1 on the season. Last time out, the Golden Flyers lost 62-57 at Keuka College on Nov. 29. Jadyn Abrams led Nazareth with 15 points, while Rachel Benedict and Isabella Gjonaj each scored 12 points. The Golden Flyers enter Thursday averaging 63.0 points per contest, while allowing 56.8 points per game. Benedict leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.3 points and 10.3 rebounds.

St. John Fisher comes into Thursday 5-2 on the season. The Cardinals defeated Alfred State College, 58-43 last time out on Nov. 30. Erin Hulbert led the Cardinals with 14 points, while Mallory Wood tallied 10 points and had seven rebounds. St. John Fisher enters Thursday averaging 62.9 points per game, while allowing 56.1 points. Leah Koonmen leads the Cardinals in scoring, averaging 10.9 points per game. Sydney Masna leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.6 caroms per game, and Hulbert has a team-best 5.4 assists per contest.

Rochester enters Thursday's contest 1-4 on the season. The Yellowjackets defeated Oswego State 62-46 the last time out on Nov. 27. Lena Ethington led Rochester with 14 points, while Julianna Okoniewski and Jamie Boeheim each tallied 12 points. Rochester comes into Thursday's game averaging 53.8 points per game, while allowing 61.4 points a contest. Okoniewski leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 9.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. Camryn Fagan leads the Yellowjackets, averaging 2.8 assists per game.
 
Attendees who bring an unwrapped toy will enjoy free admission to the games. Suggested toys for younger children include board games, Legos, sports equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, and footballs), stuffed animals, and dolls. For older children, bath and body products, stuffed animals and headphones, while hats, gloves, scarves and socks are also welcome. All toys collected will be distributed to children from the Rochester refugee community through Mary's Place.

Tickets are $1 for students and $5 for adults. Head out to Kidera Gym on the campus of Nazareth for an unforgettable weekend of basketball.
