Late rally comes up just short for men's basketball in loss to Union

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-4, 0-2 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 74-68 by Union College (4-1, 1-1 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Saturday afternoon.

RIT shot 38.0 percent from the floor on 27-of-71 shooting. The Tigers made 8-of-28 from beyond the arc, and went 6-of-9 from the foul line. Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) led the Tigers with 19 points. Senior co-captain Chuck Okehie (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh) tallied a career-high 14 points, while Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) tallied 10 and grabbed six rebounds off the bench.

Nate Freeman led Union with 13 points, while Mike Concannon added 12 points and three assists. Kevin Jefferson tallied 11 points, while Temi George grabbed eight rebounds to go along with eight points for the Dutchmen, who shot 50.0 percent from the floor.

RIT trailed 44-27 at the half. The Dutchmen extended their lead to 56-34 early in the second half on a layup by Jackson Mannix. Trailing 60-39, RIT went on a 20-7 run, cutting the Union lead to 67-59 on a 3-pointer from Atkinson with 4:26 remaining in regulation. After a pair of Nate Freeman free throws extended the Dutchmen lead back to 10 points, Chase Lewis (Ewing, NJ/Princeton Day School) capped off a spurt by the Tigers, cutting the Union lead to 72-68 on his 3-pointer with nine seconds to play.

Concannon mad two clutch free throws to seal the win for Union.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 6 when the Tigers begin play in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. RIT will play Nazareth College at 6 p.m. in the campus if St. John Fisher College.
