Wrestling wins two of three matches at Journeymen Northeast Duals

ALBANY, NY – The RIT wrestling team (2-1) won two of three matches, beginning its dual portion of the schedule at the Journeymen Northeast Duals Saturday. RIT defeated Niagara County Community College, 43-11 and knocked off Long Island-Brooklyn, 36-12 before falling to Castleton, 20-16.
 
Freshman Chris Horton (Athens, PA/Athens Area) (133 lbs.), sophomores Zach Stedeford (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) (149 lbs.) and Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) (157 lbs.), along with junior John Donohue (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) (165 lbs.), all went 3-0 on the afternoon. Doug Simmons (Canastota, NY/Canastota) (197 lbs.) and Connor Calkins (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) (285 lbs.) both finished 2-1.
 
The Tigers won two matches by forfeit, two by pin and recorded one fall and one technical fall in the 43-11 win over NCCC. The Tigers won seven of 10 matches against LIU-Brooklyn, highlighted by falls from Winters and Simmons and technical falls by Donohue and Calkins.
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 16-7 lead over Castleton, before dropping the final four matches. Winters picked up his second pin of the day in 2:13 over Daniel Haverty.
 
RIT returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the New York State Championships, hosted by Cornell University.
