ROCHESTER, NY –The RIT (4-5-1, 0-4-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team lost 2-0 at home to St. Lawrence University (6-2-2, 3-1-1 Liberty League) in warm and humid conditions Saturday afternoon from Tiger Stadium. The Tigers have now lost four straight games.
The Tigers dedicated today's game to people affected by Substance Use Disorders that impact a person's ability to function, causing health problems, disability and failure to meet responsibilities at work, home or school. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield along with ROCovery and Trillium Health accepted donations and provided free Narcan training along with materials to help educate the public about substance abuse.
Shots were 13-12 in favor of the Saints, while each side took five corner kicks.
Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss in net for RIT, making nine saves. Mike Smith got the win for the Saints, making five saves.
Charlton Kelly opened the scoring with his goal in the 16th minute. He dribbled around Sokol, who came off his line, slipping a shot into the corner to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
RIT had a chance in the 20th minute when
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) sent in a ball from the flank that
Lucas Randrianarivelo (Baltimore, MD/Gilman School) ran onto. Randrianarivelo's shot was deflected out of play by a St. Lawrence defender, earning the Tigers a corner kick.
Garno had a chance early in the second half when he tried chipping a ball over Smith, who had come off his line. Smith got a piece of Garno's shot to deflect wide and out for a RIT corner kick.
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had a shot on net early in the half, while Garno had a shot from 20-yards out off a free kick that Smith dove to save.
Jethro Dede put the game away with his goal in the 64th minute. Ryan Crouse found Dede with a nice diagonal pass that Dede shot first time past a diving Sokol.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12 when the Tigers host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 4 p.m. on the field at Tiger Stadium.
