Despite two goals from Cornine, women's hockey loses in overtime to St. Cloud State

Cornine scores her 30th and 31st career goals

ST. CLOUD, MN – Despite a pair of goals from senior forward Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard), the RIT women's hockey team (1-2-1) suffered a 3-2 overtime loss at St. Cloud State from the Herb Brooks Center Saturday afternoon.
 
RIT led 2-1 late in the third period before Hallie Theodosopoulos scored her second goal of the game with 6:55 left in regulation to tie the game. RIT goaltender Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) was under siege in the period, as the Huskies held a 23-6 edge in shots.
 
In overtime, St. Cloud State won the game on a power-play, as Abby Thiessen fired a shot through traffic past Lanteigne for the game-winner with 2:22 left.
 
Cornine scored both goals in the second period for RIT. She now has 31 goals and 51 career points. Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario/), Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) and Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) drew assists for RIT. Lanteigne was strong in net, stopping 44 of 47 shots.
 
St. Cloud State out-shot RIT 47-25, including 27-6 in the third period and overtime. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power-play.
 
Neither team scored in the opening period, as RIT held a Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) had a good chance off a rebound knocked aside by Huskies goaltender Janine Alder. Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) denied St. Cloud State a golden chance midway through the period, sliding to block a point-blank chance.
 
Cornine would score twice in the second period, sandwiched around a goal by St. Cloud State to give RIT a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
 
The senior forward would score her second goal of the weekend, third of the season and 30th of her collegiate career right before the midway point of the second period, taking a feed from Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario/) and firing a shot past Alder to open the scoring.
 
The Huskies would answer back with four minutes left in the period, as Theodosopoulos put a shot past Lanteigne from in tight.
 
RIT would answer back on a power-play with 1:33 left in the period, as Cornine one-timed a feed from Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) and ripped a shot in from the high slot for her fourth goal of the year. Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) also assisted on the goal.

St. Cloud State won last night's contest, 7-3. Jade Mancini (Burlington, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos), Cornine and Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) scored for the Tigers.
 
RIT is off next weekend and returns to action on Oct. 19-20 vs. Union College at the Gene Polisseni Center. The Tigers will celebrate Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend with a 5 p.m. start on Friday, Oct. 19 and play at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20.
