Women's soccer earns crucial Liberty League win over Bard College

Tigers score two quick goals; RIT celebrated Brick City Homecoming & Family weekend

ROCHESTER, NY –The RIT (8-4-2, 3-2-2 Liberty League) women's soccer team defeated Bard College (4-10-1, 0-8-0 Liberty League) 2-1 in Liberty League action from Tiger Stadium Saturday afternoon as part of RIT Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend.  With the win, the Tigers move into a tie for third place in the Liberty League standings with St. Lawrence with 11 points.

Shots were 14-8 in favor of RIT, with the Tigers firing five shots on net and the Raptors finished with four shots on target. RIT took two corner kicks to one for Bard. Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) got the win in net for RIT, making three saves, while Abigail Stanley took the loss for the Raptors, making three saves.
 
"We played a great first 10 minutes and scored two quick goals," said RIT head coach Liz Masterson. "I was happy with our work ethic to win the ball back as a unit to sustain our attack."
  
RIT did not take long to take the lead, scoring in the fourth minute. Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) took a feed from Lauren Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and scored on a shot from 10 yards out to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Maggie Hoey (Charlotte, NC/Lincoln Charter School) in the ninth minute, when she redirected a shot from close-range off an assist from Losquadro for her fourth tally of the season.

The Raptors cut RIT's lead in half on a goal from Dylan McDonald in the 20th minute. She scored on a shot from inside RIT's penalty box for her league-leading eighth goal of the season.

Rebecca Hext (Ottawa, ON/Longfields Davidson Heights) had a chance inside the final 20 minutes when she tried to chip the keeper, ringing her shot off the crossbar. The rebound came to Marla Roberts (Penfield, NY/Home Schooled), but her shot went just wide of the post. Courtney McHale (Newton, NJ/Newton) had a chance with 12 minutes remaining, but Stanley came up with the save.
 
Casey Witte had a chance with 10 minutes remaining to tie, but her shot was just wide of the RIT post.
 
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when the Tigers host Ithaca College at 3:30 p.m. on the field Tiger Stadium. The Tigers host Union College next Saturday and will honor the Class of 2019 prior to the game.
