Garno's overtime goal gives men's soccer thrilling 2-1 win over Skidmore on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, NY – RIT junior Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored in the 109th minute to give the RIT (6-5-1, 2-4-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team a dramatic 2-1 win in overtime over Skidmore College (6-4-3, 2-3-1 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tigers have six points, and are now just three points out of the final Liberty League Tournament spot.

Garno took a pass from Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) in the second overtime session, and fired a shot from 10 yards out that deflected off a Thoroughbred defender and into the net to give the Tigers the win.

Shots were 19-8 in favor of RIT. The Tigers fired four shots on target, while the Thoroughbreds had three shots on net. RIT took four corner kicks to two for Skidmore. Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) got the win in net for the Tigers, making two saves, while Sebastian Bosch took the loss for Skidmore, making two saves.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on Simone's fifth goal of the season in the 24th minute. Josh Ridenhour attempted to clear a ball from inside his own box. But he slipped and the ball came to Simone who fired a shot from 10 yards out through Bosch's gloves and in.

Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) had a chance to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead, but his header off a corner kick came right to Bosch who made the save.

The Thoroughbreds equalized on a goal from Isaac Myran in the 38th minute. He made a driving run into the RIT defense, finding himself 1-on-1 with Sokol, beating him with a shot into the far corner.

Garno and the Tigers had plenty of chances in the second half, but could not capitalize. Garno had a chance in the 64th minute, but his header from inside the Skidmore box was just over the crossbar. Garno also had a golden chance in the 87th minute. He chipped Bosch, who had come off his line, and tried to redirect his shot in, but it rang off the post and out of play. Simone had a chance early in the second half that Bosch saved.

Myran had Skidmore's best chance in the second half, but Sokol came off his line as Myran was driving into the RIT box, and made the diving save. Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) cleared the rebound out of harm's way to keep the score tied 1-1.

Short had a chance for RIT in the first overtime, but his shot rang off the post and Adam Bem's (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) shot was blocked away by a Thoroughbreds defender.

The Tigers finally got the game winner in the 109th minute to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Prior to today's game RIT honored the Class of 2019, Adam Bem (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook), Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Dakota Kegler (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) and Cam Shipley (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) to honor their final regular season appearance at Tiger Stadium.
