Hoey's overtime goal lifts women's soccer to key Liberty League win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Freshman Maggie Hoey (Charlotte, NC/Lincoln Charter School) scored in the 92nd minute to give the RIT (7-3-2, 2-2-2 Liberty League) women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime win at Skidmore College (6-5-0, 3-3-0 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tigers move into the sixth place in the Liberty League standings with eight points. The top six in the standings make the Liberty League Tournament.

Hoey took a pass from Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) in the first overtime session. Hoey beat her defender to the center of the field, and beat Skidmore goalkeeper Ava Keller to give the Tigers the win.

Shots were 15-10 in favor of Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds fired six shots on net, while the Tigers had three shots on target. Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) got the win in net for RIT, making four saves. Ingirda Ivaska got the start for RIT, making one save in the first half. Keller took the loss for Skidmore, making two saves.

RIT took the lead on an Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) goal in the 35th minute. She fired a curling shot from the left side of the box that beat Keller to her near side.

Skidmore tied the score just before halftime on a goal from Melissa Haas in the 41st minute. She took a pass from Emily Mendes and beat Ivaska with a shot to the right, tying the score at 1-1.

That score stood until the 92nd minute when Hoey and the Tigers struck for the game winner.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 18 when the Tigers face University of Rochester at 7 p.m. at Fauver Stadium on the campus of University of Rochester.
