Wrestling splits pair of matches at NY/PA Duals to open 2018 calendar year

YORK, PA – The RIT wrestling team (3-4) split a pair of matches at the New York/Pennsylvania Duals, hosted by King's College on Saturday afternoon. RIT fell to Lycoming (6-2), 20-18 before rebounding to knock off host King's (0-15), 37-13.
 
Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley) (125 lbs.), Alex Prunoske (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater Catholic) (133 lbs.), Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) (157 lbs.) and Trevor Snow (Dexter, NY/General Brown) (184 lbs.) won a pair of matches apiece to lead the Tigers.
 
In the opener against Lycoming, RIT won five of the first six matches before Lycoming came storming back. Flanagan earned a 5-4 win over Cameron Terry to open the match, while Prunoske defeated Eric Hunt, 10-9 and Shane Murphy (Mt. Olive, NJ/Mt. Olive) secured a 5-2 win over Andres Aguilar to give RIT a 9-0 lead.
 
After Trevor Corl got Lycoming on the board at 149 lbs., Winters won 2-0 over Hadyn Swartwood at 157 lbs. and Colby Hall (Deposit, NY/Deposit) won 4-2 in overtime at 165 lbs. to up RIT's lead to 15-6. Trevor Snow (Dexter, NY/General Brown) put RIT in front 18-9 with an overtime victory over Bradley Miccio at 184 lbs., but Lycoming would win the match with a pin at 197 lbs. and technical fall at 285 lbs.
 
RIT would come right back and score the first 12 points en route to a quick 21-4 lead after five matches. Flanagan and Prunoske won by forfeit, while Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills) made his season-debut a winning one, knocking off Jake Daniel, 6-3. Winters picked up his 25th win of the season, earning a pin in 2:49 over Tony Immediato.
 
The Tigers kept the momentum going, winning three more matches to pull away. Joe Lupisella (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) defeated Darren Marte by technical fall at 174 lbs., while Snow won his second match of the afternoon, also by technical fall. Joey Monteleone (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) earned his first collegiate win via forfeit at 197 lbs.
 
The Tigers are back in action next weekend at the Budd Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College on Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13. The Tigers will compete in five dual matches over the weekend.
