Strong fourth quarter helps women's basketball to win over Rensselaer

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-1, 4-0 Liberty League) women's basketball outscored Rensselaer (6-5, 2-2 Liberty League) 22-11 in the fourth quarter to erase a deficit and beat the Engineers 57-49 in Liberty League action from Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon.

RIT shot 40.7 percent from floor on 22-of-54 shooting. The Tigers went 4-of-16 from behind the arc, and went 9-of-18 from the foul line. Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led the Tigers with 17 points, while Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) chipped in 16 points. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied nine points and had six assists, while Lynch and Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) each had seven rebounds.

LaKissa Martin led Rensselaer with 11 points. Elizabeth Eckhardt tallied 10 points for the Engineers who shot 32.8 percent from the floor. Shaina Iton led the Engineers with 10 rebounds, while tallying nine points.

RIT trailed 15-11 after the first quarter, but outscored the Engineers in 16-11 in the second quarter to take a 27-26 lead into halftime. A Glaz 3-pointer with 3:22 to play in the second quarter gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 25-22.

Renssealer scored 12 points in the third quarter, holding the Tigers to just eight points to lead 38-35 after the third quarter. The Engineers led by as many as five points in the quarter, but a layup by Glaz with 29 seconds to play in the third cut the RPI lead to three points.

RIT came on strong, outscoring Rensselaer 22-11 in the fourth quarter. A Glax layup with 8:42 to play gave the Tigers the lead for good. Okada scored all nine of her points in the final quarter.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 9 when the Tigers face Liberty League foe Ithaca College at 6 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y.
