Women's hockey suffers 3-1 loss at College Hockey America foe Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, MO – The RIT women's hockey team (4-21-3, 1-13-0 CHA) fell to College Hockey America rival Lindenwood University (8-15-1, 6-8-0 CHA) by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon from the Lindenwood Ice Arena. The Lady Lions scored two goals in 27 seconds late in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie.
 
Baylee Trani (Huntington Beach, CA/New England Hockey Club) scored RIT's lone goal with just under five minutes to go in the second period off a pass from Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) which tied the game at 1-1. Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) also assisted on the goal, Trani's third of the year and second in her last three games.

Lillian Marchant scored a pair of goals to lead Lindenwood, while Hannah Alt also tallied and Britannia Gillanders added two assists. Goaltender Jolene deBruyn earned the win in goal, stopping 26 shots.
 
Shots were 27-23 in favor of RIT. Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) led the team with five shots on goal, while Haywood added four. Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Athol Murray) took the loss in net for the Tigers, stopping 20 shots.
 
Lindenwood went 1-for-4 on the power play while RIT was 0-for-3.
 
Neither team tallied in a the opening period in which RIT held an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Marchant tipped ia shot from Cierra Paisley 6:55 into the second period to open the scoring.

RIT would answer as Trani tallied, but Lindenwood would answer right back with two goals in a span of 27 seconds late in the second period to go up 3-1. Alt scored off a rebound to give the Lions a 2-1 lead with 2:30 left in the second period. Marchant notched her second goal of the game less than thirty seconds later to give the Lions a 3-1 lead.
 
Today's contest marked the fourth and final regular season meetin between the Tigers and Lady Lions this season. The two teams split a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center on Oct. 27-28. RIT won the opener, 4-3, while Lindenwood took game two, 6-0. Cornine and Haywood had a goal and an assist in the 4-3 win. Last night, Lindenwood skated to a 4-1 win.
 
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 10-9-5.
 
RIT is off next weekend, but returns to action Feb. 9-10 for a home and home with Syracuse University. The Tigers travel to the Orange on Friday, Feb. 9 to play at 7 p.m. then return Saturday, Feb. 10 to host Syracuse at 2 p.m.
