GENEVA, NY — The RIT (15-3, 9-3 Liberty League) women's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 78-56 victory at William Smith College (10-8, 4-7 Liberty League) from Bristol Gym Saturday afternoon. The Tigers broke the game open by outscoring the Herons 38-16 in the second and third quarters.
RIT shot 50.9 percent from the floor on 28-of-55 shooting. The Tigers went 7-of-18 from behind the arc, and were 15-of-18 from the foul line.
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) and
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) led a trio of Tigers to score in double figures with 20 points apiece.
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Olsen and
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) led RIT with five assists apiece.
Mia Morrison led William Smith with 19 points and nine rebounds. Kendra Quinn-Moultrie tallied 14 points. Julianna Gamboa chipped in with nine points for the Herons, who shot 31.4 percent from the floor.
RIT led 19-16 after the first quarter. Lynch led the way with eight points in the quarter.
Whitney Kent (Hinsdale, NY/Cuba-Rushford) gave the Tigers a 19-14 lead with her 3-pointer late in the quarter. Angela Bussone scored late for the Herons to cut the RIT lead to three points.
The Tigers jumped out with a 12-4 run early in the second quarter, taking a 31-20 lead on a 3-pointer by Glaz with 6:12 to play in the half. Lynch extend the RIT lead to 39-25 with her layup late in the half. The Tigers outscored the Herons 23-9 in the quarter, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor in the half. Lynch led RIT with 14 points. Glaz tallied nine points, while Okada chipped in six points. Morrison and Quinn-Moultrie each scored 10 points for William Smith.
RIT held William Smith to seven points in the third quarter, going on a 15-7 spurt to build a commanding 57-32 lead after three quarters.
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game with her 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter to make it a 62-34 contest. RIT scored 21 points in the final quarter to win by 23 points.
The Tigers have won nine straight games over William Smith. Overall, RIT remains atop the Liberty League standings with a 9-2 conference record and its 15-3 overall mark is the best 18-game start in program history.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Feb. 2 when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 6 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gym.
