Women's hockey falls to CHA foe Lindenwood

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (4-20-3, 1-12-0 CHA) fell to College Hockey America foe Lindenwood University (7-15-1, 5-8-0 CHA) by a score of 4-1 Friday evening from the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
 
Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) scored RIT's lone goal, slapping a shot in on a power play off a pass from Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson High School) in the third period to cut Lindenwood's lead to 3-1. Haywood led RIT with six shots on goal, while Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) added four.

Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) took the loss in net for RIT, making 26 saves. Jolene deBruyn had the victory in net for Lindenwood stopping 27 shots. Sierra Burt scored a pair of third period goals, while Cierra Paisley and Britannia Gilanders, also tallied for the Lions.
 
Shots were 30-27 in favor of Lindenwood. The Tigers held a 12-8 edge in shots after one period, while Lindenwood out-shot RIT 22-15 the rest of the way. RIT went 1-for-6 on the power play while Lindenwood was 1-for-5.
 
Lindenwood got on the board early scoring 1:20 into the first period, as Paisley scored to make it 1-0. Gilanders scored off an assist from Megan Wagner midway through the second period to make 2-0 for the Lions.  Just three and a half minutes into the third period, Burt scored off assists from Courtney Ganske and deBruyn making it 3-0. Burt added an empty-netter in the final minute to close out the scoring.
 
Tonight marked the third of four regular season meetings between the Tigers and Lady Lions this season. The two teams split a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center on Oct. 27-28. RIT won the opener, 4-3, while Lindenwood took game two, 6-0. Cornine and Haywood had a goal and an assist in the 4-3 win.
 
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 10-8-5.

The two teams meet back up tomorrow Saturday, Jan 27 at 2 p.m. for day two of the series.
