Women's basketball gets back in win column with road victory at league foe Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY – The RIT (12-3, 7-2 Liberty League) women's basketball team used a 21-6 run in the third quarter en route to a 56-43 win at Clarkson University (7-9, 2-7 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have now won three straight contests over the Golden Knights.

"I thought we showed a lot of guts today, especially in the second half" said RIT head coach Amy Reed. "We defended well today and that is what got it done."

RIT shot 38.3 percent from the floor on 23-of-60 shooting. The Tigers went 6-of-20 from beyond the arc, and made all four free throws. Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) led the Tigers with 14 points and five rebounds. Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) tallied 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) and Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) each scored eight points.

Devin Sorell led Clarkson with 16 points. Molly Stewart tallied nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Madison Shea had eight rebounds for the Golden Knights, who shot just 27.8 percent from the floor.

RIT led 17-15 after the first quarter. Lynch led the way with seven points in the quarter, while Wolfe and Glaz each scored five points. Sorrell tallied seven points for Clarkson in the quarter.

The Tigers took a slight 27-26 lead into halftime, tallying 10 points in the second quarter. RIT shot 26.7 percent from the floor in the first half on 11-of-30 shooting.

Wolfe drained a 3-pointer with eight seconds to play in the third quarter, giving RIT its largest lead of the game at 48-32. The Tigers outscored Clarkson 21-6 in the quarter, ending the quarter on a 16-2 run to lead by 16 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Clarkson got to within 12 points on a bucket by Marshall early in the quarter. The Tigers withheld the run and built their lead back to 15 points on a jumper by Okada with 1:46 to play. RIT outscored Clarkson 29-17 in the second half.

Rebounds were even at 42-42. The Tigers tallied 20 points in the paint and got 13 points from the bench.

RIT returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 23 when the Tigers play host to No. 25 SUNY Geneseo at 7 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium.
