Women's hockey drops opening home game of calendar year to Robert Morris

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (4-18-3, 1-10-0 CHA) dropped its first home game of the 2018 calendar year, 12-1 to College Hockey America rival Robert Morris University (13-6-3, 7-2-2 CHA) at the Gene Polisseni Center on Friday afternoon.
 
The Colonials scored five goals in each of the first and second periods. Ten different Colonials scored goals, while 16 players hit the score sheet. Jaycee Gebhard tallied twice and added an assist, while Kirsten Welsh also scored two goals. Emily Curlett had a goal and three assists, while Brittany Howard added five assists. Maggie Lague, Lexi Templeman, Aneta Ledlova and Amber Rennie had a goal and an assist apiece, while Sarah Lecavalier, Cathy Sadowy and Natalie Marcuzzi also scored. Elijah Milne-Price made 21 saves in the win.
 
Brooke Baker (Saline, MI/Saline) scored RIT's goal with 2:51 left in the third period. Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) started for RIT, stopping 13 shots. Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Athol Murray) played the second period, making seven saves, while Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 10 third period saves.
 
Robert Morris out-shot RIT, 42-22. The Colonials were 4-for-8 on the power-play, while RIT was 0-for-6.
 
Marcuzzi opened the scoring just 1:35 in, while Welsh and Curlett tallied 1:09 apart midway through the period to give the Colonials a 3-0 lead. Gebhard scored with 6:28 left in the frame, while Welsh scored her second power-play goal of the frame with 2:08 left to give Robert Morris a five-goal lead after 20 minutes of play.
 
Rennie, Sadowy, Lacavalier, Lague and Templeman added second period goals for the Colonials.
 
Gebhard and Ledlova scored 1:12 apart in the third period for Robert Morris, before Baker got RIT on the board late. Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) fed Stella Haberman (Golden Valley, MN/Minnesota Whitecaps) behind the net, who quickly fired a pass out in front that Baker one-time in for her second goal of the season.
 
Today was the third of four meetings between the two schools in 2017-18. Robert Morris leads the all-time series between the two schools, 16-10-3. Robert Morris won both previous meetings at 84 Lumber Arena on Nov. 10-11 by scores of 6-1 and 5-2.
 
RIT and Robert Morris will wrap up the regular season series on Saturday afternoon from the Polisseni Center at 1 p.m.
