ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-3-0) men's soccer was defeated 5-1 by cross-town rival the University of Rochester (3-1-2) in the sixth annual Hillside Community Shield on Saturday afternoon from steamy Tiger Stadium. Rochester's Geoffrey Rouin tallied the hat-trick for the Yellowjackets.The Hillside Shield was created as a fundraiser aimed at supporting the youth and families by the Hillside Family of Agencies through the game of soccer.
Shots were 14-9 in favor of Rochester, who took six corner kicks to two for the Tigers.
Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) scored RIT's goal, while
Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) took the loss in net, making three saves. Redd Brown got the win for Rochester, making one save.
RIT had a good scoring chance and appeared to strike first early in the first hal.
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) got himself free for a shot, which was stopped by Brown. The rebound came to DeFeo, who tapped the ball into the open net, but his goal was waived off after being flagged for offsides.
Rochester took a 1-0 lead on Rouin's first goal in the 20th minute off a free kick from 25 yards out. Bryce Ikeda scored off an assist from Aleks Dombrowski in the 28th minute to make it 2-0 Yellowjackets.
Alex Di Perna converted a penalty kick in the 51st minute to give the Yellowjackets a 3-0 lead. Rouin scored his second in the 55th minute off an assist from Mitch Volis to make it 4-0 Rochester.
DeFeo scored on a loose ball inside the Rochester penalty area to cut the Yellowjackets lead to 4-1 in the 61st minute. The goal was his team-best fourth of the season in just five games. He scored three goals in his first two seasons at the university.
Rouin scored his third and final goal in the 82nd minute to make it a 5-1 final.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 with a road match at local rival Nazareth College. That match gets underway at 4 p.m.
