PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (2-3-1) men's soccer team played to 0-0 draw versus Nazareth College (4-2-1) Tuesday afternoon in the sun at Golden Flyer Stadium. The Tigers fired 18 shots, including seven on target and controlled much of the play throughout the game.
Shots were 18-5 in favor of RIT, who took seven corner kicks to three for the Golden Flyers.
Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) played all 110 minutes in net for RIT, making three saves for his first solo shutout of the season. Brian Wilkin made seven stops in net for Nazareth.
Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) had a good chance for RIT in the 35th minute. He got free and fired a shot from a sharp angle that Wilkin was there to stop. With nine minutes to play in the opening half, the Tigers had a nice build-up from the back, with the ball eventually finding DeFeo. DeFeo fed a pass to
Connor Gill (East Northport, NY/Commack) who was making the run down the channel, but the shot was just wide of the target.
Just after halftime, Josh Crespo got free for Nazareth, firing a shot from 15 yards out, forcing Cinibulk into a save.Â
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had a shot on target in the 62nd minute that Wilkin saved, and with a little over 21 minutes to play,
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had his shot blocked away inside the Nazareth penalty area.
RIT controlled much of the play the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Tyler Hatch (Concord, NH/Tilton School) had a header with 16:56 to play off a deep service go just wide of the Nazareth post. Â The Tigers fired seven shots in the second half, including four on net.
Inside the last minute of the first overtime period,
Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) got the ball out on the flank. He maneuvered his way free and fired a shot that just curled wide of the post. In the second overtime, Simone had a great chance when a ball came into the box. He hit the shot first time, but right at Wilkin.
RIT is 27-6-6 all time versus Nazareth.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 when they open Liberty League play at home versus 2016 champion Vassar College. Kick-off from Tiger Stadium is at 1 p.m.
