Women's lacrosse loses crucial Liberty League home contest to Vassar

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-5, 1-3 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated 12-7 by Vassar College (5-5, 2-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from sunny RIT Turf Field Saturday afternoon. With the loss, RIT falls to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in Liberty League play.

Shots were 35-23 in favor of RIT, while the Brewers held a 19-15 ground ball edge. The Tigers won 15-of-20 draw controls, were 14-of-17 on clearing attempts, but went 0-for-14 on free position attempts.

Vassar goakeeper Emily Chancey was outstanding in net, making 17 saves. Kelly Pushie led Vassar with five points on four goals and an assist. Storm Sideleau finished with four goals, while Tessa Waters and Julia Trudell each scored a pair of goals.

Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with four goals. Maegen Schmauder finished with two goals and two assists, while Cassie Swan (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) also scored. Rebekah Snikoff took the loss in net, making one save. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the final 35:21 and made three saves. Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had an assist, four ground balls and three draw controls. Swan caused two turnovers.

After Pushie gave Vassar an early lead, RIT countered with three straight goals, taking a 3-1 lead on Schmauder's tally at the 18:08 mark of the half. Livecchi tied the game with her goal at the 25:50 mark, and then gave RIT its only lead of the game on her goal off an assist from Schmauder at the 21:37 mark.

The Brewers closed out the first half scoring the final six goals to lead 7-3 at the break. Sidelau scored three of Vassar's six goals to close out the half, while Waters and Trudell each scored.

Vassar continued the momentum into the start of the second half, scoring the first three goals to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Pushie scored all three of the Vassar goals to start the half. Livecchi broke  RIT's scoring drought with her goal at the 17:41 mark to cut the Vassar lead down to 10-4. Waters and Sidelau scored consecutive goals for the Brewers to increase the Vassar lead to 12-4 with 13:25 to play.

RIT scored three late goals to make it a 12-7 final. Swan, Livecchi and Schmauder each scored late in regulation.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, April 14 when RIT hosts St. Lawrence University in a Liberty League contest beginning at 4 p.m.
