Women's lacrosse loses critical Liberty League contest to St. Lawrence

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (6-6, 1-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-7 by St. Lawrence University (5-6, 2-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Tiger Stadium Friday afternoon. The Saints outscored the Tigers 10-1 in the second half.

Shots were 30-19 in favor of St. Lawrence. The Saints held a 19-15 ground ball advantage, and won 12-of-22 draw controls. RIT went 11-of-12 on clearing attempts, and went 3-of-6 on free position attempts.

Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with five points on four goals and an assist. Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) scored four goals, while Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) added a goal. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) took the loss in net, making seven saves. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the final 12 minutes, making three saves.

Julia Mitiguy and Kiera Taussig each scored five goals for St. Lawrence. Ashley Norris tallied a pair of goals, while Emma Jewett scored a goal and added an assist. Cricket Wemyss got the win in relief, making seven saves in 39 minutes of action.

Mitiguy gave the Saints a 2-0 lead early in the game, tallying two straight goals to open the game. Bingo got RIT on the board with her goal off an assist from Livecchi at the 23:30 mark.

After a Norris goal gave the Saints a one-goal lead, the Tigers scored three straight times, taking 4-3 lead on Livecchi's second goal of the half. Jewett scored for St. Lawrence, tying the game at 4-4. Ward converted a free position with 9:22 to play to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead. After a Taussig goal tied the score at 5-5. Livecchi converted a free position attempt with two seconds to play in the half to give RIT a one-goal advantage at halftime.

Taussig opened the second half with her goal at the 26:03 mark, tying the score at 6-6. Livecchi scored with 25:16 to play to give RIT a 7-6 lead. That would be the last goal the Tigers would score as St. Lawrence ran off nine straight goals to close out the game.

Taussig scored four goals in the second half, while Mitiguy scored three. Wemyss was excellent in net in the second half for St. Lawrence, making five big saves.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 15 when the Tigers host Clarkson University. RIT will honor the class of 2017 in a brief ceremony prior to the start of the game.
