Big second half gives women's lacrosse a 13-9 win over Clarkson on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (7-6, 2-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team scored nine second-half goals en route to a 13-9 win over Clarkson University (9-4, 2-3 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium Saturday.  

RIT trailed 4-0 after the first 14:13 of action, but rallied to outscore the Golden Knights 13-5 over the final 45:47, including 9-5 in the second half to secure the win. Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) and Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each scored three goals for RIT. Maegen Schmauder and Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) also scored a goal.

Bingo and Julia Spier (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) each had three ground balls, while Bingo caused three turnovers and won six draw controls. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) got the win in net for RIT, making six saves.

Abby Collins led Clarkson with four points on three goals and an assist. Kate Dillon tallied two goals, while Taylor Collins added a goal and an assist. Samantha Gladd took the loss in net, making just three saves.

Clarkson jumped out to an early lead, tallying the first four goals of the game. Taylor Collins opened the scoring with her goal at the 24:35 mark. Her sister Abby gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead with her goal at 22:37. Dillon and Abby Collins added goals to give Clarkson an early 4-0 lead.

Ward broke the run for RIT with her free position goal with 15:10 to play in the half. After an Abby Collins goal made it 5-1 Clarkson, the Tigers closed out the half scoring the final three goals. Livecchi scored off a feed from DaCosta to make it 5-2. DaCosta scored on her own with 1:57 to play to cut the lead to 5-3, and Schmauder scored with one second to play in the half to make it a 5-4 game.

Ward tied the game at 5-5 with her goal early in the second half. Jaid Boytos gave the Golden Knights a 6-5 lead with her goal at the 28:23 mark.

A Livecchi goal at the 27:19 mark of the second half was the start of a six-goal run by the Tigers. DaCosta scored two straight at 26:38 and 15:59 to increase the RIT lead to 8-6. Bingo and Ward converted free position attempts at 15:15 and 14:03, respectively to give the Tigers a 10-6 lead. Livecchi closed out the run with her second goal of the half to increase the RIT lead to 11-6.

Baytos and Dillon scored consecutive goals for Clarkson to cut the RIT lead to 11-8. Fallone's goal with 5:19 to play made it 12-8, and Bingo's third of the game made it a 13-9 final.

Shots were 22-20 in favor of RIT. Clarkson held a 24-17 ground ball edge, while the Tigers won 15-of-23 draw controls.

Before the game, RIT honored Bingo, DaCosta, Kaitlyn Dolan (North Andover, MA/North Andover), Cassidy Goodwin (Berlin, CT/Berlin), Hughes, Gwen Neuhaus (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac), Spier, Cassie Swan (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), and Ward, who were playing in their final regular season home game.

RIT returns to action on Friday, April 21 when the Tigers face Liberty League rival University of Rochester on the road at 4 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
