ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (5-10) put up a valiant effort, but fell short to SUNYAC Champion SUNY Geneseo (12-8) by a score of 7-2 at RIT Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
After Geneseo took all three doubles matches to open up a quick 3-0 lead. RIT would battle in the singles matches.
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) picked up her 11th victory of the season at first singles, defeating Lauren Salzano of Geneseo in three sets. Ying took the first set, 6-2 before Salzano rallied to win the second set, 6-4. Ying would emerge victorious in the third set tiebreaker, winning 10-3 to take the match.
Kayla Llanos (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) would earn RIT's second point, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Geneseo's Alexa Sparacio.
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Nina Lurie waged a tremendous battle at fifth singles. Price took the first set, 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker), before Lurie won set two, 6-4, and the third set tiebreaker, 10-4.
The Tigers play their final home match of the 2016-17 season on Sunday, as they host Oneonta State on Sunday at 1 p.m. RIT will honor its lone senior,
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport).
