GENESEO, NY – The RIT women's track and field began its 2017 outdoor season at the non-scoring Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Sunday.
Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) broke a 25-year old school record in the triple jump, placing second overall with a leap of 11.09 seconds. That snapped the previous mark of 10.92 meters, held by Tabitha Gano.
Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) and
Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) led a 1-2 finish for the Tigers in the 400-meter hurdles. Dispenza won by just under a second in a time of 1:06.19, just missing the school record she set last year. Binga recorded a time of 1:07.02.
The 4 x 100-meter relay team of
Emily Young (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Binga,
Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield), and Dispenza was second overall in a time of 51.22 seconds.
Dispenza,
Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander), and Calzolari were fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Dispenza who cracked 16 seconds with a time of 15.96 in the preliminaries, recorded a time of 16.45 in the final. DeAngelo finished in 16.62 seconds and Calzolari crossed the line in 16.97 seconds.
On the field side,
Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) placed fourth overall in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.10 meters.
Kaitlyn Houghtling (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.06 meters, while
Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) right behind in was seventh.
Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) was sixth in the high jump, surpassing 1.48 meters.
Julia Wojciechowski (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) had RIT's best finish in the throwing events, hurling the hammer 38.21 meters.
Rachel Goldberg (Olney, MD/Sherwood) was RIT's top finisher in the discus with a throw of 34.13 meters.
The Tigers are back in action next Saturday, April 8 at Nazareth's ROC City Classic that gets underway at 10 a.m.
