SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — Despite a career-high six goals from senior
Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang), the RIT (5-4, 0-2 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team lost 18-14 at Skidmore College (6-3, 2-0 Liberty League) Sunday afternoon. DaCosta tallied a career-high seven points with six goals and an assist.
Shots were 45-26 in favor of Skidmore. The Tigers grabbed 17 ground balls and won 12 draw controls.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied two goals and added a pair of assists.
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and
Maegan Schmauder (Franklin, MA/Franklin) each scored two goals.
Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) was tested often for the Tigers, making a career-high 13 saves in just under 41 minutes of play.
Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the final 19:10, stopping four of seven shots.
Tyler Phillips led Skidmore with eight points on four goals and four assists. Cas Szwajkowski scored seven goals, and Lilla Seymour tallied three goals. Natalie LaBeau dished out three assists, and Caroline Kenton got the win in net, making four saves.
Schmauder gave RIT a 1-0 lead 24 seconds into the game when she converted a free position attempt. Phillips answered for Skidmore, tallying two straight goals to give the Thoroughbreds a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers struck three straight times, taking a 4-2 lead on a goal from
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield). DaCosta scored two straight, tying the score with her goal at 28:07 and giving the Tigers the lead on her goal at 23:21.
DaCosta added two more goals in the half, her last coming with 12:47 to play to give RIT a 7-5 lead. Phillips and Szwajkowski scored consecutive goals for Skidmore to tie the score at 7-7. Ward gave RIT an 8-7 lead with her goal with 1:06 to play in the first half.
Shots were 19-14 Skidmore in the first half. DaCosta led RIT with four goals, while Schmauder scored twice. Snitkoff made seven saves in net for RIT.
Seymour tied the score at 8-8 with her goal 59 seconds into the second half. Ward scored her second of the game at 28:41 to give the Tigers a 9-8 lead. Skidmore answered with five straight goals, taking a 13-9 lead on a goal from Rachel Talanian at the 19:10 mark.
DaCosta broke the run, tallying her fifth of the game, converting a free position attempt at the 16:49 mark to cut the score to 13-10. Later in the half trailing 16-11,
Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) made it 16-12 with her goal with 10:09 to play. DaCosta converted another free position attempt with 7:32 to play to cut the Skidmore lead to 16-13. Livecchi scored with 6:56 to play to make it 16-14. Skidmore answered with goals from Louisa Vincent and Seymour to close out the game.
RIT returns to action on Friday, April 7 when the Tigers host Bard College in Liberty League action from RIT's Turf Field at 4 p.m.
