Baseball stays hot, defeats Keuka 12-3 for ninth straight victory

Tigers have scored 77 runs over their nine-game winning streak

KEUKA PARK, NY – The RIT baseball team (16-6) won its ninth straight game, scoring five runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth to defeat Keuka College (9-10) by a score of 12-3 at Kuhl Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers are outscoring opponents 77-23 over their nine-game winning streak. They have now scored at least 10 runs in a game 10 times this season and have won nine straight games for the first time since 2008.

"I am happy with the way we continue to respond in and play our best baseball at the end of the game," said RIT head coach Rob Grow.

RIT out-hit Keuka, 13-5. Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) led a potent offensive attack by going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, RBI, and walk, while brother Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-2 with a walk in his first collegiate action. Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and was hit by a pitch. Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) stole two bases and drove in two runs, while Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) also drove in a pair of runs and Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) scored twice.

Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) earned the start, throwing three shutout innings, allowing two hits, while striking out three batters. Connor Ewing (Fairport, NY/Fairport) would pick up his first collegiate win in relief, allowing two runs in two innings, while striking out three more batters. Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) got RIT out a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning and allowed a run in the seventh. Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland) pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport), a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.

Brooks Vertoske had a two-run single for Keuka in the bottom of the sixth inning that cut RIT's lead to 3-2. Ryan Lawrence took the loss on the mound for the Wolves, allowing three runs (one earned) in four innings.

RIT would score in the top of the first inning, as Kajganich singles in Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport), who led off the game with a walk. RIT would add two runs in the fourth as a perfectly executed double steal would score Mylott and Gage Blasi (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) would score later in the inning on a fielder's choice by Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool).

After Keuka cut the lead to 3-2, RIT would tack on five runs in the seventh, with Zeglen driving a pair home with a double, and four more in the eighth, two coming on a double by Myers.

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 20-1.

The Tigers return to Liberty League play this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders at Skidmore College on Saturday and Sunday. Both twin-bills begin at noon.
