ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (5-9, 1-5 Liberty League) recorded their first dual win of the spring season, rolling to an 8-1 win over Liberty League foe Bard College (7-10, 0-6 Liberty League) at the Mendon Racquet Club on Easter Sunday.
RIT dominated from the outset, winning all three doubles matches. The duo of
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Diana Kulawiec (Fairport, NY/Fairport) rolled to an 8-2 win over Lily Schwarz and Harriette Slagle at first doubles. At second doubles,
Brianna Dimisko (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and
Kayla Llanos (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) held off Amelia Tiemann and MacKenzie Wardell 8-6, while the third doubles team of
Alyssa Hering (Albion, NY/Kendall) and
Maddy Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) earned an 8-0 shutout.
RIT continued its dominance in singles play. Ying took down Schwartz at first singles, 6-1, 6-0, while
Marie Jubert (Fairport, NY/Fairport) took down Slagle at third singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Kulawiec earned a thrilling three-set victory over Lily Zacharias, coming back after losing the first set, 6-4 to win set two, 6-2, and the tiebreaking third set, 10-4.
Price and Llanos picked up dominant wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Price lost just one game in her two set win over Wardell, while Llanos did not surrender a game in her victory over Jenny Chen.
RIT returns to action on Thursday with a home match against SUNY Geneseo that gets underway at 4 p.m.
