Baseball extends winning streak to seven games with 7-1 win over Rochester

Game two to be played at 6 p.m. this evening at Rochester's Towers Field

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (14-6, 9-1 Liberty League) won its seventh straight game, knocking off University of Rochester (6-14, 4-9 Liberty League) by a score of 7-1 at Tiger Stadium Saturday morning. Game two of today's doubleheader will now be played at University of Rochester's Towers Field at 6 p.m.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and three more in the fourth inning to jump out to a quick 7-0 and starting pitcher Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) did the rest, allowing just five hits and one run, while striking out six batters in an 81-pitch complete-game effort.

"We received another really good starting pitching performance today and our offense continues to grind it out with good at-bats," said RIT head coach Rob Grow.

Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the way offensively for the Tigers, who out-hit Rochester, 10-5. Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) drove in a pair of runs, while Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Seven different Tigers scored in the win.

Zeglen was strong all contest in picking up his third win of the season and first complete game.

The Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the second, as Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) led off with a double and Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) reached on an infield single. After Myers singled in Myers to make it 1-0, Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) reached on an error as attempted a sacrifice bunt, loading the bases. Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) would hit a sacrifice fly to score Scialabba. Two batters, later, Gorman singled through the left side to plate two more runs.

RIT would put the game away with three unearned runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs. With runners on second and third, Gorman hit an infield single to drive in a run and Kajganich followed with a double to left field, scoring two more runs.

Jack Denzer took the loss on the mound for Rochester, allowing 10 hits and seven runs, although just two were earned. David Reith was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Yellowjackets.

The Tigers swept both ends of yesterday's doubleheader against Rochester, winning 4-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two.

RIT is right back in action on Tuesday, April 18 with a single, nine-inning contest at Keuka which gets underway at 4 p.m.
