ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-1) women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Lycoming College (0-1) 14-7 in cold and windy conditions on RIT's Turf Field Sunday afternoon. The Tigers outscored the Warriors 8-3 in the second half to secure the win.
Shots were 25-21 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 27-18. The Tigers won 12 draw controls, including nine in the second half. RIT went 4-of-8 on free position attempts, and went 17-of-19 on clears.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Tigers with six points on four goals and two assists.
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Syndey DaCosta each tallied three goals and added an assist.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Maegen Schmauder both scored two goals.
Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) picked up her first collegiate win in net, making five saves.
Kelly McGinnis led Lycoming with three goals and an assist. Hailey Kimble tallied a pair of goals, while Jordan Lazarich had a goal and an assist. Nicole Gerling took the loss in net, making eight saves.
RIT led 6-4 at halftime. Fallone scored with seven seconds to play in the half to give the Tigers a two-goal cushion. Livecchi scored three times in the first half, while Ward scored twice. McGinnis scored all three of her goals in the first half to pace the Warriors.
Schmauder extended the Tigers lead to 7-4 on her free position shot at the 25:47. After Livecchi and DaCosta goals gave RIT a 9-5 lead, Lycoming answered with two straight goals from Kimble, cutting the RIT lead to 9-7 with 12:18 to play.
RIT put the game away scoring four straight goals over the final 12 minutes to secure its first win of the season. DaCosta scored two of RIT's four goals, while Schmauder, Ward and Fallone each tallied.
Schmauder led RIT with three caused turnovers, while Ward and
Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) each won four draw controls. DaCosta had a team-high five ground balls, while Ward scooped up four.
RIT returns to action on Monday, March 13 when the Tigers face The College of Wooster at 11:30 a.m. in Engelwood, Florida.
