Women's lacrosse scores 19 goals in convincing win over Wooster

ENGLEWOOD, FL – The RIT (2-1) women's lacrosse team scored 13 first-half goals in a 19-9 win over The College of Wooster (2-1) on Monday morning at Ann Dever Field. Nine different Tigers scored a goal, while five players finished with at least three points.

Shots were 36-19 in favor of RIT. The Tigers had 19 ground balls, and won 21-of-31 draw controls. RIT went 10-of-12 on clears and 5-of-11 on free position attempts.

Maegen Schmauder led the Tigers with a career-high five points on four goals and an assist. Her four goals tied her career high. She had two ground balls, and won five draw controls. Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) finished with a career-high four goals, while Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) and Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) each scored three times.

Bingo led the Tigers with four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) got the start in net, making four saves in the first half. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the entire second half and made four saves.

Helena Enders led Wooster with four goals and an assist. Laura Papp chipped in three goals, while Heather Szymanski dished out three assists. Emma Hambright took the loss in net for Wooster, making 10 saves.

Schmauder and DaCosta gave RIT an early 2-0 lead early in the first half. Schmauder converted a free position attempt inside the first minute of the game. DaCosta gave RIT a 2-0 lead on her goal off an assist from Schmauder at the 28:46 mark.

After an Enders' goal cut the RIT lead in half, RIT ran off seven straight goals, taking a 9-1 lead on a Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) goal at the 17:01 mark of the half. The 13 goals scored in the first half is a season-high for RIT.

RIT tallied six goals in the second half, while allowing just three by Wooster to cruise home for the win. Bingo scored twice in the second half, while Ward, Schmauder, DaCosta and Cassie Swan (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each scored. Swan finished with a pair of goals in the win.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, March 15 when the Tigers face Ohio Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m. in Englewood, Florida.
