ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-2) women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday after a 15-11 loss to SUNY Geneseo (3-2) at the RIT Turf Field. The Knights scored three goals in the final 90 seconds to break open a close game.
Shots were 35-17 in favor of Geneseo. RIT snagged 14 ground balls to 20 for the Knights. The Tigers won 9-of-18 draw controls, and went 16-of-20 on clearing attempts. RIT finished 6-of-9 on free position attempts, while Geneseo went 4-of-10.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with six points on five goals and an assist.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) tallied three goals, while
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) scored a pair.
Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) dished out a pair of assists, and Maegen Schmauder tallied a goal.
Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) got the start in net, making eight saves in the loss.
Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) played the final 17 minutes and made four saves.
Erin Cregan and Rachel Fisher led SUNY Geneseo with six points apiece. Cregan finished with three goals and three assists, while Fisher finished with four goals and a pair of helpers. Maddie Lee also scored five goals. Tess McFadden got the win in net for Geneseo, making two saves.
Tied 2-2 in the first half, Geneseo scored four straight goals, taking a 6-2 lead on Lee's tally with 8:10 to play. The Tigers answered back, tallying two straight goals to close out the half. Schmauder cut the score to 6-3 on her free position goal with 7:07 to play. Ward scored a free position goal with 4:10 to play in the half.Â
Goals from Lee and Cregan at 20:09 and 17:03 of the second half gave the Knights an 11-6 lead. The Tigers answered with three straight goals, cutting the Geneseo lead to 11-9 on Fallone's goal with 11:36 to play in regulation. Ward, Livecchi and Fallone each scored for RIT in that stretch.
The Knight would extend their lead back to three goals as Fisher scored with 8:14 left to play. Livecchi and the Tigers would not go away, however, as the junior scored two straight times, cutting the Geneseo lead to 12-11. With just over two minutes left, Fallone had a look to tie the game stopped by McFadden. Lee would give the Knights a 13-11 game with 1:25 left and after a draw control by Hahhan Millich, Fisher would put the game away with 50 seconds left. FIsher would also add one in the final seconds.
RIT is right back in action on Saturday against SUNYAC foe Oswego State. That game from RIT's Turf Field gets underway at 1 p.m.
