Women's lacrosse picks up convincing victory over Oswego State

The Tigers out-scored the Lakers 9-2 in the second half to win 14-4

ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT women's lacrosse team (4-2) won convincingly over Oswego State (2-3) on Saturday afternoon, 14-4 at the RIT Turf Field in cold and windy conditions. The Tigers out-scored the Lakers 9-2 in the second half en route to their second largest win of the season.
 
Shots were 30-14 in favor of RIT, and the Tigers won 12-of-20 draw controls. RIT was 17-for-18 on clears, compared to 12-for-15 for Oswego. The Tigers were 4-for-12 on free position attempts, while the Lakers didn't have a free position attempt in the game.
 
Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) led all players with four points on three goals and an assist, while Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (three goals), Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (three goals), Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) (two goals and an assist), and Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) (one goal and two assists) each had three points. Meagen Schmauder added a goal and an assist, while Brooks Melnyk (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) also scored. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) got the start in net for the Tigers, making five saves for her fourth win of the season.
 
For Oswego, Toni Laneve, Nicole Granteed, Teresa Shattuck, and Kelsey Henderson each had a goal, while Gemma O'Kane had an assist. Angela Ponto fell to 2-3 on the season, making six saves in the loss for the Lakers.
 
RIT took an early 3-0 lead just 5:35 into the game, before Oswego struck back with two tallies of its own, cutting the Tigers lead to 3-2, 6:46 in. Neither team would score for the next 11:32, until Ward put RIT up 4-2. Bingo added one more tally with 2:12 left in the opening half, to give RIT a 5-2 lead at the half.

The Tigers came out strong in the second half, as Fallone scored on a free position shot 4:16 into the frame and added two more goals in a row, for a natural hat-trick, making the score 8-2. DaCosta and Bingo capped off a four-goal stretch in a span of 2:06 for the Tigers, stretching the lead to 10-2, putting the game away.
 
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, March 28 at 4 p.m., as former Empire 8 rival Nazareth College makes the quick trip to RIT's Turf Field.
