Men's hoops suffers second straight conference home loss, falling to St. Lawrence

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (12-10, 6-7 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated by St. Lawrence University (17-4, 10-2 Liberty League) 83-74 in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Saturday afternoon. The Tigers honored United States Military veterans prior to the game.

RIT trailed by three at the half, and led briefly in the second half before a late run by the Saints put the game away. RIT shot 41.4 percent from the floor on 29-of-70 shooting. The Tigers went 9-of-29 from behind the arc, and went 7-of-10 from the foul line. Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) led RIT with 20 points. AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) tallied 16 points and had five assists, while Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Drain (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Wyatt Smith (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) added six points each.

Riley Naclerio led St. Lawrence with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Edwards added 16 points, while Ben Crawford scored 14 points for the Saints, who shot 44.4 percent from the floor and won the battle of the boards, 43-36.

The Saints would lead throughout, holding a 37-34 lead at the break. RIT would go up a few times early in the second half before St. Lawrence used a 20-10 run to go up 63-54 with just under 10 minutes left. An Aguilera free throw with 7:03 to play in the second half gave RIT its final lead, 68-67. The Saints answered back with a 9-2 run, taking a 76-70 lead on a jumper by Naclerio with 2:43 to play. RIT got the score back to 76-72 Saints on a dunk by Aguilera with 1:15 to play, but could not get closer.

St. Lawrence would outscore the Tigers 7-2 over the final 1:15 to secure the win.

With the loss, RIT falls to 6-7 in Liberty League play, falling into sixth place with just three games to play.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, February 7 when the Tigers face Union College at 8 p.m. in Schenectady, N.Y.
