Ali Binga and Jess Calzolari garner Liberty League Women's Track and Field honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman sprinter Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) and senior multi-events standout Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) of the RIT women's track and field team, earned Liberty League Weekly honors on Monday, for the week ending Feb. 26, 2017.

Binga, named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, was part of two winning relay teams for the Tigers at the 2017 NYSCTC Championship. The 4 x 200-meter relay team was victorious by 44 one-hundredths of a second on Friday in a time of 1:48.14. The 4 x 400-meter relay squad of won by 25 one-hundredths of a second in 4:06.18, just missing a school mark. It is the first weekly honor of her collegiate career.

Calzolari, the Liberty League Field Athlete of the Week, finished second overall to national leader Kylee Bartlett of Rochester in pentathlon over the weekend, while breaking her own school record in the high jump (1.61 meters). Calzolari recorded a score of 3,234 points, which is currently the 12th best in all of Division III this season. Calzolari was second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.41 seconds), runner-up in the high jump (school record 1.61 meters), fifth in the shot put (9.92 meters), second in the long jump (4.98 meters), and second in the 800-meters (2:39.10).

In addition, she was second overall in the triple jump at the state meet with a leap of 10.79 meters. It is her third weekly honor of the season.

RIT competes in its final open meet of the indoor season, heading to the Tufts University Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday at 11 a.m.
