ROCHESTER, NY - Freshman thrower Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) of the RIT women's track and field team, was named the Liberty League Track and Field Rookie of the Week on Monday, for the week ending Feb. 19, 2017. It is Pizzo's first weekly accolade.

Pizzo finished second overall in the shot put with a toss of 11.57 meters at the Utica College Invitational on Saturday. She has a top throw of 11.67 meters in that event, set in Brockport on Jan. 28.

RIT returns to competition on Friday, Feb. 24 when the Tigers begin competition at the 2017 NYSCTC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University. The competition gets underway at 3 p.m. on Friday and continues at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
