Men's basketball loses 2016-17 season finale to Union on Senior Night

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (12-13, 6-10 Liberty League) men's basketball fell to Union College (13-10, 9-6 Liberty League) 81-64 Friday evening in the season finale at Clark Gymnasium. Prior to the game, RIT honored seniors Kevin Drain (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), as they made their final home appearance.

RIT trailed by one at the half, but were outscored 43-27 in the second half. The Tigers shot 31.0 percent from the floor on 18-of-58 shooting. RIT made just 5-of-23 from beyond the arc, but were an impressive 23-of-27 from the foul line.

AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) led RIT with 12 points. Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) scored 11 points, while Herman added 10 points. Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored nine points and had three steals.

Kevin Weckworth led Union with 19 points off the bench. Wade McNamara scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Matt Liquori and Deshon Burgess each scored 16 points for the Dutchmen, who shot 41.8 percent from the floor.

Drain gave RIT an early lead with his layup inside the first four minutes of action. Union responded, taking a 16-7 lead on a 3-pointer by Weckworth.

Liquori gave Union its largest lead of the first half with his 3-pointer at the 3:50 mark, giving the Dutchmen as 36-26 lead. RIT responded with a 12-2 run, cutting the Union lead to one point on a layup by Pierre-Louis with 33 seconds to play in the half. Horde and Lewis each scored six points during the run for RIT to get back in the game.

RIT shot 35.5 percent from the floor in the first half. Horde led the Tigers with 10 points, while Pierre-Louis added nine points.

Union opened the second-half on a 16-7 run, taking a 54-44 lead on a 3-pointer by Weckworth at the 15:07 mark. McNamara would make it a 12-point lead with his bucket with 13:38 to play to make it 59-47 Union. The Dutchmen would lead by as many as 23 points in the second half en route to the win.
