ONEONTA, NY – The RIT wrestling team (9-7) dropped its final dual match of the 2016-17 regular season, 27-17 to Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference rival Oneonta State (12-6-1) from the G. Hal Chase Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
RIT trailed 12-3 before roaring back to take a 17-16 after
Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) earned a 10-0 major decision victory over Lantze Lange at 184 lbs. Oneonta would win the match as Peter Pietri earned a technical fall win at 197 lbs., and nationally-ranked heavyweight James Bethel secured a pin fall for the final score.
Down 9-0,
Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) would get the Tigers on the board with a 9-3 win over Richard Dennison of Oneonta.
Dempsey King (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) would earn a major decision victory over Daniel Murphy 14-4. Both wrestlers now have 23 wins on the year to lead the team.
Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) continued his tremendous comeback, pinning Daniel DeCarlo in 1:16. He now has nine wins in 10 matches this season.
The Tigers are off next weekend, but return to action on Feb. 25-26 at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship hosted by York University in York, Pa.
