Women's hockey travels to face Union in final two games of 2017 calendar year

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team plays its final two games of the fall semester and 2017 calendar year, as they head to Union College on Friday Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16. Friday's contest from Mezza Rink begins at 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest starts at 3 p.m.
 
This weekend marks RIT's final two non-conference games of the season. RIT will play its final 12 regular season games against College Hockey America foes.
 
RIT comes into the weekend series with a 4-14-2 record and is 3-7-2 in non-league play. Last weekend, the Tigers dropped a pair of games at Bemidji State University of the WCHA, 5-2 on Friday and 3-1 Saturday. Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) and Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) scored on Friday, while Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) tallied on Saturday. Goaltender Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 92 saves in the two contests, including 55 on Friday.
 
Kandice Sheriff (Brampton, Ontario/) leads the team in scoring with 10 points on three goals and seven assists, while Cornine had a team-best six goals. Claudia Black (Newmarket, Ontario/St. Maximilian Kobe) and Rushton have seven points apiece. Lanteigne is third nationally with 477 saves in 13 games played. She has a .919 save percentage.
 
Union enters the weekend with a 4-12-2 record and a 3-5-0 mark in ECAC play. Last weekend, the Dutchwomen lost a pair of league games on home ice by identical 5-1 scores to No. 3 Clarkson and No. 8 St. Lawrence. Cheyenne Harris leads the team in scoring with 12 points on a goal and 11 assists, while Katelyn Russ has a team-best seven goals. Coco Francis is 3-7-2 in net with a 2.73 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.
 
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 10-5-1, including a 5-2-1 mark since moving to Division I in 2012. Last season, the two teams split a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center by identical 2-0 scores. Lanteigne posted her first collegiate shutout in RIT's win. Cornine and Jade Mancini (Burlington, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos) scored for RIT in the victory.
 
Both games will be streamed through Union Athletics. Live stats will also be available for both contests.
 
RIT will be back in action following the holidays on Jan. 12-13 at CHA foe Mercyhurst. The Tigers return home the next weekend, Jan. 19-20 to take on Robert Morris University.
