Volleyball drops second straight Liberty League contest at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY – The RIT volleyball team (11-10, 1-3 Liberty League) fell to Liberty League foe St. Lawrence University (15-7, 2-3 Liberty League) in four sets from Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
 
St. Lawrence won the first set, 25-21 before rallying to win a tremendously close second set, 32-30. RIT gained momentum by winning the third set, 26-24, before the Saints closed out the match with a 25-21 win in set four.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Sarah DelVecchio (Galway, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) slammed a career-high 13 kills, while hitting .250 to go along with three blocks. Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) had 12 kills, nine digs and four service aces, while Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) added 10 kills. Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 34 assists and seven digs, while Paige Daly (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) added a team-best nine digs.
 
"We really keep competing," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "That's one of the things I really like about this team. As our consistency continues to develop, we will become a very good team. We will continue to work hard and trust the process."
 
Grace Kelly led the Saints with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Masha Kolesnikova added 13 kills, nine digs and four service aces. Amanda Teppo hit .562 with 10 kills and three blocks. Katie Kull led all players with 42 assists.
 
St. Lawrence had 49 kills and 49 digs in the match. RIT had 44 kills and 42 digs.
 
The Saints improved to 9-0 at Burkman Gym on the season. Both teams wore special pink jerseys for St. Lawrence's Power of Pink game.
 
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 29-22. Last night, the Tigers fell in four sets to Clarkson in Liberty League action.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday evening with a non-league contest at Nazareth College that gets underway at 6 p.m.
