ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-5-3, 4-2-2 Liberty League) men's soccer team clinched a Liberty League postseason berth with a 4-1 win over Ithaca College (7-7-2, 2-5-1 Liberty League) from Chilly Tiger Stadium on Wednesday. With the win, the Tigers move into fourth place in the Liberty League standings, and  are riding a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2).

Shots were 24-5 in favor of RIT, while corner kicks were 5-3 in favor of the Tigers. Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored twice for RIT, while Cam Shipley (Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) also tallied. Scott, Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Connor Gill (East Northport, NY/Commack) each had assists. Nate Schoen scored the Bombers goal. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) got the win in net for RIT, making one save. Dan Hinckley took the loss for Ithaca, making four saves.

RIT had a great chance early in the game on an Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) header in the eight minute that Hinckley was able to save. The Bombers took the lead on Schoen's goal in the 19th minute. He scored on a loose ball inside the RIT penalty area, gathering and firing a shot into far corner to give the Bombers an early lead.

Simone tied the game with the first of his two goals in the 25th minute. He scored off a throw-in. The ball was loose in the Ithaca box and Simone fired a shot into the top right corner that tied the score at 1-1. Less than five minutes later, Shipley gave RIT a 2-1 lead on his second goal of the season. Garno sent in a service off a RIT corner kick that Scott flicked to Shipley who scored from in close. Simone tallied his second just before halftime to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Connor Gill (East Northport, NY/Commack) had the initial shot saved by Hinckley. the rebound came to Simone who scored into the open net.

Ithaca's best chance came in the 84th minute when Justinian Michael had a wide-open header at RIT's back post. Cinibulk got over and was able to make the save.

Scott put the game away with a penalty kick goal in the final moments. RIT, who entered the day as the highest scoring team in the Liberty League, has 19 goals during its six-game unbeaten streak.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 28 when the Tigers host Union College at 1 p.m. in the regular season finale at Tiger Stadium. Prior to the game, the Tigers will honor seniors Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) and Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) in their final regular season appearance at Tiger Stadium. A win would clinch a home game in the Liberty League Tournament.
