ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (7-5-3, 5-2-2 Liberty League) men's soccer team closed out the 2017 regular season in style with a 3-0 win over Union College (9-6-2, 1-6-2 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium Saturday. The Tigers honored seniors Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) and Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) prior to the game. With the win, RIT finished tied for third in the Liberty League standings and will host No. 5 seed Clarkson University in a Liberty League Tournament Quarterfinal game Tuesday, Oct. 31.

"It was a great game for our team today to wrap up the regular season on a positive note," said RIT head coach Bill Garno. "I thought we came out prepared to play right away from the first whistle and battled for 90 minutes in some tough conditions."

Shots were 16-7 in favor of RIT. The Tigers took six corner kicks to three for the Dutchmen. Joey Gianakopoulos (Bexley, OH/St. Charles Prep), Kouroupas and Tyler Hatch (Concord, NH/Tilton School) each scored for RIT. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) got the win in net for RIT. O'Mara played the final 39 minutes, making a save. John Weitzman took the loss for Union, making seven saves.

RIT took a lead on a goal in the 39th minute. Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) fired a shot that Weitzman saved. But, the rebound came to Gianakopoulos who shot first-time into the open net for the first goal of his collegiate career.

Kouroupas gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 50th minute. Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) fed Kouroupas with a service that he fired passed a diving Weitzman to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Hatch put the game away with his goal in he 88th minute. Nate Verso (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area) started the play with a drive up the middle of the pitch. He fed Connor Gill (East Northport, NY/Commack) who spotted Hatch with a perfectly weighted pass. Hatch scored first-time to give RIT a three-goal lead.

"I am very proud that our four seniors, Dean, Pat, Mike and Tristan were able to contribute to such a big win. Their leadership is a big reason we have the opportunity to continue the season, which we very much look forward to."
