Women's soccer ties Liberty League foe Skidmore 1-1 on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (8-3-2, 2-2-3 Liberty League) women's soccer team tied Skidmore College (2-8-2, 0-4-2 Liberty League) 1-1 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. RIT honored its six seniors prior to today's contest, as part of Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend.

Shots were 16-8 in favor of RIT, who took 12 corner kicks to three for the Thoroughbreds. Alyssa Tatti (Lake Grove, NY/Centereach) scored the Tigers goal, while Jenna Valleriano (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added an assist. Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) made four saves in net for the Tigers. Emily Mendes scored for Skidmore, and Yasmine Boukari had an assist. Alyssa Rollins made five saves for the Thoroughbreds.

Neither team generated many quality scoring chances in the first half. Skidmore had a chance in the 25th minute when a Sydney Gellerman shot sailed high over the RIT net. The Tigers finally broke through in the 44th minute on Tatti's goal. Valleriano played a ball into the Skidmore penalty area that Tatti ran onto and struck first time. It gave the Tigers the lead heading into halftime and was her first of the season.

The Tigers had a couple chances early in the second half. Tatti had a shot on goal that Rollins had to save. Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy) had a chance in the 55th minute on a header off a corner kick that Rollins tipped over the cross-bar.

Skidmore tied the game on Mendes goal in the 73rd minute. Boukari sent a ball into the RIT penalty area that Mendes ran onto and scored first time to tie the score at 1-1.

In the first overtime Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) had a shot on target that Rollins saved, while Monique Polanco (Merrick, NY/John F. Kennedy) and Lauren Chester (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had chances in the second overtime.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Oct.19 when the Tigers host University of Rochester at 4 p.m. on the field at Tiger Stadium.
