ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's volleyball team (11-12) fell to the The College at Brockport (15-7) in four sets Friday evening from Clark Gym to kick off the 29th annual RIT Invitational.
Brockport had 49 kills compared to RIT's 35, and the Tigers had 29 errors as opposed to 23 for Brockport. The Golden Eagles had 11 service aces aiding their victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, dropping the first two sets to Brockport 25-11 and 25-21. In set three, the Tigers extended the match when they went on two 4-0 runs to earn a 27-25 set victory over Brockport sending the match into a fourth set.
The final set was dominated by Brockport, who had a six-point run to clinch the victory.
"I really liked how we continued to fight after a slow start," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "Our energy and communication got much better as the match progressed."
Kathryn Vogl (West Seneca, NY/St. Mary's) led RIT with 11 kills, while
Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) added 10.
Maria Simonetti (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) finished the night with five of RIT's six service aces.
Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 29 assists, and
Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) led the team with 10 digs.
Sarah DelVecchio (Galway, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) chipped in with six kills and four blocks.
DeAnna Whittemore led Brockport with 14 kills, while hitting .444. Noelle Poloncarz had four service aces and was the Golden Eagles leader in assists with 38. Jamie Schlesinger assisted with the Brockport victory, chipping in with 10 digs and 10 kills, while hitting a remarkable .692.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday at Clark Gym for day two of the RIT Invitational, hosting SUNY Geneseo at 10 a.m and Springfield College at 2 p.m.
