Okada scores career-high 26 points as women's basketball falls to No. 22 Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT women's basketball team (8-2) suffered its second straight loss, falling to the No. 22 University of Rochester Yellowjackets (9-2), 72-62 at Clark Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
 
RIT sophomore Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) helped keep the Tigers in the game throughout, dropping a career-high 26 points on 12-of-19 shooting, to go with four rebounds and two steals. Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) added eight points. Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) had seven points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Burns (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) added six points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
 
For Rochester, Alexandra Leslie lead all scorers with 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor and added a game-high 20 rebounds to go along with six assists. Lauren Deming (12) and Lizzy Atkinson (11) also added double-digit points for the Yellowjackets.
 
The Tigers came out hot, shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and taking a 22-16 lead after the opening quarter. But the Yellowjackets took control of the game in the second quarter, out-scoring RIT 23-7 to lead 39-29 at the half.

"Aside from our second quarter drought, I thought we played very well," said head coach Amy Reed. "We made some adjustments at halftime and the team executed them well."
 
RIT hit over 55 percent of its shots in the third quarter, and pulled back within five at 54-49. Okada helped RIT attempt a comeback with three baskets in the fourth, but Rochester pulled away enough in the to solidify the win.

"I have seen great improvement in the past few days, and we will be ready to go for conference play this weekend," said Reed.
 
RIT returns to action this weekend with a pair of Liberty League road matchups. RIT will travel east to take on Vassar at 6 p.m. Friday, and Bard at 2 p.m. Saturday.
