Men's basketball drops home contest to Liberty League foe Skidmore

ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT men's basketball team (8-6, 2-3 Liberty League) lost 72-68 to Skidmore College (10-5, 5-1 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Friday evening.

"It came down to two or three possessions, as many games do," said head coach Bob McVean. "We just didn't convert, and probably the telling thing is (shooting) 6-for-14 from the foul line. If we make two or three of those and it could change the whole complexion of the game."

AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) led all scorers with 21 points, to go along with seven rebounds and two assists for RIT. Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had nine points and five boards, while Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) added eight points. Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led the team on the glass, with eight rebounds to go along with six points.

The Thoroughbreds had four players score in double-figures, led by Edvinas Rupkus, who had 16 points, to go along with 12 rebounds for a double-double.

The first half had both teams playing fast-paced, back-and-forth basketball. Horde started his night with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, and Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) had a team-high five rebounds over the opening 20 minutes. RIT and Skidmore finished the half tied at 34.

The second half defined the game — most importantly, the last four minutes. Skidmore increased its lead to seven with 9:17 left, but the Tigers came roaring back, taking a 59-58 lead with 4:39 to go. After the game was tied at 62, Skidmore then went on a 6-0 run off a 3-pointer by Jack Murrow and old fashioned 3-point play by Aldin Medunjanin. Horde capped off his night with two straight 3-pointers, making it just a two-point game late. Skidmore held on from that point, as the RIT comeback fell short.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday looking to get back to their winning ways, as they host Liberty League foe Rensselaer at 4 p.m. from Clark Gym.
